Types of USB Microscope Accessories You May Need

Instead of buying a high-end model to replace your old USB microscope, you can try saving money by purchasing accessories instead. More importantly, buying USB microscope accessories will allow you to procure only the enhancements you need. That is infinitely better than having to make do with a packaged or preset unit that may not have all the features you’re looking for.

Types of USB Microscope Accessories You May Need
Most of the accessories discussed here are suitable for microscopes with USB ports and not the kind of USB microscopes that are portable and digital.

Microscope Stage Warmer – A microscope stage warmer has a built-in heat control system. When attached to a microscope, it ensures that live and biological samples flourish from precise and constantly monitored thermal conditions. Stage warmers are best used for determining sperm motility as they can be adjusted to match the temperature required by the sample. Stage warmers are universal nature and thus can be attached to all types of USB biology compound and stereo microscopes.

The stage’s warming deck is made of aluminum with high tensile strength. This lets it have a relatively constant temperature set more at less at positive or negative 1 degree Celsius and between a range of twenty and fifty degrees Celsius. You only have to preheat the stage warmer for a maximum of two minutes to obtain your desired temperature.

Microscope stage warmers are easy to install. They come with a LED digital display and touch pad buttons for easy control of the device.

Microscope Camera – Not all USB microscopes come with built-in cameras. If you’ve an old version, yours probably don’t and that’s why you need to purchase a camera accessory for your microscope. With a microscope camera attached, other people may immediately view the same images you’re studying via the LCD monitor of the camera. It can also improve image quality by leaps and bounds.

A microscope camera of good quality offers fast refresh rates so that you won’t have to waste too much time waiting for images to appear when you’re using the zoom position or repositioning the sample.

There are several features to consider when looking for a microscope camera accessory. Firstly, consider its suitability – it must be compatible with your microscope’s connectivity port. Check if it’s easy to install and operate. Next, check its image resolution – what’s the maximum mega pixel it’s using for capturing images? Does it offer automatic and manual focus?

Does it allow you to configure image options like white balance, color saturation, sharpness, brightness, and contrast? Does it come with a flash bulb or illumination head? What is its frame rate per second? How big is its built-in memory and does it come with additional connectivity ports or at least a card slot? If there’s a card slot, what type of memory card does it accommodate?

How about image capture options? Is there a timer feature to program the camera to start and stop recording images at a given time? How big is the camera? Is there a free tripod or mount offered with the camera package? What kind of image formats can it use?

Light Illuminator – Your USB microscope can benefit from either direct or incidental light illuminator to make you see the target at improved light conditions. These are easily attached and quite affordable to purchase.

Slide Set – The quantity of slide sets depend on the brand. Most of them are specially prepared for certain types of subjects. Instruction sheets are usually provided along to let the user determine the right type of slide to use for which type of sample. Slide sets save you time and effort since all you have to do is just place the sample on the slide and it’s ready right away for observation.

Microscope Case – USB microscopes are just as fragile as any other type of microscope. You can protect your investment better by using a specially designed case for microscopes. These are made of heavy-duty material able to provide your microscope set from dirt and scratches. It also cushions impact caused during traveling and storage.

Look for a case that’s equipped with Velcro straps to keep the microscope in place. It must also be easily opened and closed for convenient access. Additional pockets must be furnished for storing other accessories.

Microscope Cleaning Kit – USB microscopes can’t be cleaned with the usual range of cleaning products found at home. That’s why it’s important for you to buy your own microscope cleaning kit. If you allow dirt and grime to accumulate, this could destroy the lenses or objectives of your microscope and these are very expensive to replace!

USB microscope accessories may still cost you a lot of money in the end but they’re still valuable investments to have.
